GreenMascot Project
Play Green. Act Green Sport for a Greener Future |

GreenMascot is a transnational project that uses the power of sport to promote environmental awareness and sustainable behaviour across the Black Sea Basin. By supporting local authorities, sports organisations and local communities, the project turns sport into an effective tool for positive environmental change and greener practices.

GreenMascot

The main objective of GreenMascot is to strengthen the capacity of local authorities in the Black Sea Basin to educate citizens and promote environmentally friendly behaviour through sport. By doing so, the project contributes to the protection of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure, as well as to the reduction of pollution related to sporting activities and events.

KEY ACTIONS

AWARENESS RAISING

Use sport as a communication channel to engage citizens, sports clubs, schools and young people in environmental protection and sustainable behaviour.

PILOT SPORTS EVENTS

Organise and implement green sports events and awareness campaigns in four countries to demonstrate practical solutions with a low environmental footprint.

YOUTH ENGAGEMENT

Encourage students and schools to actively participate through the international GreenMascot Contest, promoting innovative ideas for protecting the environment through sport.

TRANSNATIONAL COOPERATION

Foster cooperation between local authorities, sports organisations and stakeholders across borders to develop shared solutions for common environmental challenges.

Target Groups and Impact

The project directly and indirectly benefits local and regional authorities, sports clubs and organisations, schools, teachers, students and the wider public. By strengthening institutional capacity and raising public awareness, GreenMascot contributes to long-term behavioural change and a greener future for the Black Sea region.

CONSORTIUM

Sport and Environment Across Borders

The GreenMascot project is implemented by a transnational consortium of four complementary organisations from Bulgaria, Türkiye, Greece and Romania, combining expertise in sport, environmental protection, education and local governance.

The consortium brings together local authorities, sports organisations and environmental NGOs with strong experience in transnational cooperation and community engagement. This balanced partnership ensures that GreenMascot addresses environmental challenges in and through sport from multiple perspectives and delivers practical, transferable solutions across the Black Sea Basin.
